Elif Zaim
Anti-Dismorfia
This series, inspired by social media profile pictures, critically examines the impact of technology on the human body. Rather than directly condemning concepts like societal beauty standards and visual norms, Zaim takes the viewer on a journey, revealing that distortion and dysmorphia can also be beautiful. Through its vibrant aesthetic, the series rejects the notion that the portrayal of individuals on social media should be based solely on visuals, instead emphasizing that what makes people beautiful are their unique identities and individuality. The artist is still working on the series, of which six pieces are currently exhibited. In this sense, the works—like their aesthetics—are vivid, evolving, and in a way, interactively connect with the viewer. The artist succinctly defines the series as “the annihilation of ugliness.”
