Kaan Kuşuluoğlu
Catatonic Vision
Kuşuluoğlu’s work explores the individual’s search for their own image on the blurred surface of reality through a video playing on an old tube television screen. The body on the screen persistently attempts to clarify its copy-reality, offering an experience of alienation both visually and conceptually. In moments when clarity is temporarily achieved, the intense static sound evokes the fragility of this relationship, making the viewer acutely aware of its lack of continuity—suggesting, in fact, that this connection has been impossible from the start.

The video draws attention to the constant re-production of the self in the digital age and the intertwined nature of this process with consumer culture. Critically addressing the increasing "reels" aesthetic of video reality, the artist aims to disrupt the passivity of the viewer and stir the catatonic gaze into motion.
