Savio Banholzer
Present and Utopia & Can the Body escape from the Machine
Working in a multidisciplinary manner, Banholzer's video series and physical collages share a common thread of responding to and questioning capitalism. It is evident that the human body has become a key control mechanism within the capitalist system. In her video series Can the Body Escape the Machine?, Banholzer explores the possibility of human liberation from this system. He approaches this inquiry through humor, layering it with various aesthetics. The artist explains her collages as follows: "The theme of Present reflects the capitalist and technocratic world we live in. In this world, people are defined solely by their labor power, and as a result, they become machines that capitalists can freely exploit. Utopia, on the other hand, portrays a future where capitalism is overcome, and labor is freed from restrictions. In this world, people will have the freedom to create and recreate, finding meaning in the outcomes they produce."
